Just another day...so I thought

Just another day... so I thought

Heading out to hike on this day, I thought it was going to be just another day. As I  was arriving at my destination, I noticed a huge bird coming over a hillside. I thought to myself is this a Turkey Vulture?  Another second into my thoughts I noticed... it wasn't flying like a Turkey Vulture, it's wings were flat out and it is soaring. It was huge, dark, no white head or tail, I was puzzled.   I thought to myself, could it be a Golden Eagle? Could it be a Bald Eagle? I immediately stopped in the middle of the road and reached for my binoculars as the bird perched in a tree. At this point I couldn't identify it being so far away and it being perched. Just as I was thinking that... the bird lifted up off the branch and soared down the hillside towards my direction. It was an adolescent American Bald Eagle.

I was thankful to be able to witness it soar down in my direction until it was lifted up by the thermals. I proceeded to watch this magnificent bird soar until it was to high and out of sight. What a truly beautiful species to witness in flight. Made my day!  Not just another day!
